Established in 1993, Sweet Grass Records promotes
records and distributes stereo recordings of traditional and
contemporary Aboriginal music throughout Canada, United States,
and Europe. In addition to the music industry, Sweet Grass
Records also works in other mediums, specializing in photography,
video and print media production for the promotion of businesses
and events.
The owner and producer, Ted Whitecalf, is Cree from the Sweegrass
First Nation in Saskatchewan, Canada. Raised with traditional
teachings in the Cree culture, Ted incorporates those teachings
into his professional and personal life today. With a background
in technical coordination, audio/visual and communications
Ted has established a reputation for excellence and quality
among his peers in the industry.
Over the last decade Sweet Grass Records has made tremendous
headway in the Aboriginal music industry and is associated
with Buffy Saint-Marie, Whitefish Juniors, Stoney Park and
Red Bull. Sweet Grass has received five Juno nominations to
date receiving an award for the work with Buffy Sainte-Marie.
